Maybe it's been a while since your last cleaning, or a filling has started to feel rough against your tongue. You might be new to the city and looking for a dentist near work. Washington, DC general dentistry at DCStylishSmile covers cleanings, exams, fillings, crowns, and gum care, whether you live or work around K Street and Foggy Bottom.
What does general dentistry include?
Cleanings and exams catch problems early, and fillings, crowns, and gum treatment fix what those exams find. We take a whole-health approach to that care, looking at how your teeth, gums, jaw, and breathing work together.
A cracked tooth might trace back to clenching at night, and sore gums can signal inflammation that affects your overall health. That's why your exams include a bite and jaw analysis, a full gum evaluation, and a sleep and breathing screening. When we find the cause, we treat it along with the damage, so the problem is less likely to come back.

Emergency care for a cracked tooth or toothache
We keep time in our schedule for urgent visits, so if a tooth starts to hurt or breaks between checkups, we can often see you the same day. New members are welcome for urgent care too. We treat:
Pain or swelling
A severe toothache, or swelling in your face, jaw, or gums.
A damaged tooth
A tooth that's cracked, chipped, broken, loose, or knocked out.
A lost repair
A filling or crown that has come out.
Who you'll see, and when you can come in
Routine care is easier to keep up with when one dentist knows your history and the hours fit your schedule.
Saturday mornings
Appointments on Saturdays, for visits that won't fit around a workday.

We're in network with Aetna, Cigna, Delta Dental, Guardian, MetLife, and United Concordia, file with most other PPO plans as an out-of-network provider, and check your benefits before your visit.
Without insurance, the DCStylishSmile Membership covers preventive care for a flat annual fee and includes a discount on other treatments.

We accept most major PPO dental insurance plans, including Delta Dental, United Healthcare, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, Aetna, MetLife, Guardian, United Concordia, Humana, and more. I was previously hiding my smile. Dr. Bukai explained my treatment plan in layman’s terms and made me feel more and more comfortable. My new crowns are AMAZING. Dr. Bukai is like Michelangelo.
Max B. -
Three dentists before Dr. Bukai couldn’t find a solution. Dr. Bukai had one right away. One single visit, no extra costs, no sales pitches. No pain during and after. His human sensibility to know what to do — and his continued dental education — did not hurt in my case either.
Michael M. -
Dr. Bukai and his staff are always very accommodating especially when I have an issue with my teeth. Whenever I consider going to a dentist that is closer to me I always remember their service and tell myself, “Nah! Why should I want to do that!"

Frequently asked questions
How much do cleanings and exams cost in Washington, DC?
The cost of Washington, DC general dentistry depends on your insurance and what your exam finds. Many PPO plans cover cleanings and exams in full or close to it, while fillings and crowns usually leave a share for you. We'll go over your cost before any treatment, and CareCredit, Sunbit, and Proceed Financial can spread out larger bills.
How often should I get a cleaning and exam?
Every six months suits most adults with healthy gums. If you're managing gum disease, periodontal maintenance every three months keeps deeper pockets under control between visits. The periodontal evaluation at your first visit to our office near Foggy Bottom sets the right schedule for you, and we'll adjust it if your gums change.
Can you replace my old silver fillings?
Yes. If a silver amalgam filling is cracked, leaking, or one you'd rather not have, we can remove it and rebuild the tooth with a tooth-colored filling or a ceramic onlay, depending on how much healthy tooth is left. At your exam, we'll tell you which fillings need attention now and which can safely wait.
Do you see children?
Yes. We see kids for cleanings, exams, sealants, and fillings, and nitrous oxide can help a nervous child relax. We also watch for signs of mouth breathing or restless sleep, since breathing patterns can affect how a child's jaw and teeth develop. Tell us about any snoring you've noticed at home.
What happens if my exam finds a problem?
We'll show you what we found on your scans and images, explain it in plain language, and lay out your options with their costs before treatment starts. We can often fix an early cavity in one short visit. We plan larger work, like a crown or gum treatment, in steps that fit your schedule.
